Why I Love Back-to-School Photography in Southeast idaho
Back-to-school season in Southeast Idaho is one of my favorite times to pull out the camera. 🍂 The crisp fall air, golden leaves, and excitement of a new school year always make the perfect backdrop for children’s portraits. This year, I took my daughter out for a little back-to-school photo session here in Pocatello, and it turned out so special.
School portraits are great, but sometimes they don’t capture a child’s unique personality. That’s why I love creating back-to-school photos outdoors in the fall. Pocatello has such beautiful scenery this time of year, and the warm tones really bring out those cozy, autumn vibes. For her session, we mixed in a few fun props, like vintage books, to make the images feel timeless and full of personality.
Style and Personality
If you know her, you know fashion is one of her biggest loves. When we found an old book called The Art of Dressmaking, it felt symbolic—maybe she’ll be a fashion designer someday! She carried it throughout the session, and it instantly became one of my favorite details. These personal touches make back-to-school photography so much more meaningful than the traditional picture day backdrop.
Enter a Heading
Not every picture needs to be perfectly posed—sometimes the “oops” moments are the best. At one point, she tried balancing a stack of old books on her head. Of course, they tumbled down, but we caught the moment on camera.
It turned into one of those real, joy-filled shots that I know we’ll laugh about for years to come. Those are the memories I love preserving.
